Review/Development of Level 3 Engineering Apprenticeship Framework in Northern Ireland

SEMTA is working closely with the Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering SP (AMESP), the Department for the Economy (DfE) and the Council for the Curriculum Examinations and Assessment (CCEA) Regulation to ensure an appropriate range of Apprenticeship Frameworks in Northern Ireland for the Engineering and Advanced Manufacturing industry. This involves the review/updating of the existing Framework and technical pathways.

We need the views (in confidence) of those working in the industry and those delivering the qualification/training on the accuracy, currency and content of the Framework.

Please see the current version of the Level 3 Engineering Apprenticeship Framework in Northern Ireland can be found at:

This current version lists 12 technical pathways and  the details of the qualifications which support each pathway. At this stage we are reviewing/updating the following 5 pathways:

  • Aeronautical Engineering
  • Fabrication & Welding
  • Maintenance Engineering
  • Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering
  • Technical Support

The new version that you are helping us to develop will include more detail such as entry requirements, duration of apprenticeship, progression opportunities etc.

What we need you to do

  1. Provide us with information about you
  2. Answer 7 questions relating to Apprenticeship in one or more of the pathways via this form
  3. Send your response (in WORD) to marketing@semta.org.uk by 30.01.20

What happens next?

  • We will collate/analyse and incorporate your feedback as appropriate
  • We will post the outcome on our website and invite further comment
  • We will amend/finalise the Framework and pathways

It is the intention to have the revised Framework and pathway(s) in place and available by Q3 of 2020.
