WINNER! Diversity in Engineering
BAE Systems plc
BAE Systems plc was recognised as being one of the best organisations in the UK at championing skills development in advanced manufacturing and engineering, at the sixth annual Semta Skills Awards. It received the award for Diversity in Engineering, sponsored by Atkins, a member of the SNC-Lavalin Group.
BAE Systems won this prestigious award for its culture change and outreach programmes that have increased the proportion of female engineering apprentices at BAE from around 5 percent 10 years ago, to 30 percent today. These initiatives have also seen an increase in the diversity of its graduate programme so that Black, Asian and Minority Ethic candidates now make up around a quarter of its graduate intake.
The Diversity in Engineering runners up were: Coca-Cola European Partners and Marshall Aerospace and Defence Group.
