WINNER! Skills Innovation of the Year
Bridgwater & Taunton College
Bridgwater & Taunton College was recognised as being one of the best training providers in the UK at championing skills development in advanced manufacturing and engineering, at the sixth annual Semta Skills Awards. It received the award for Skills Innovation of the Year, sponosred by MBDA UK Limited.
Bridgwater & Taunton College won this national award for the hands-on practical experience it's providing to apprentices in the nuclear sector, incorporating new technologies such as virtual and augmented reality.
"New technology has a hugely important role to play in training the nuclear workforce of tomorrow, opening up a vast range of experiential learning opportunities that simply would not be possible in a live installation," said Andy Berry, Bridgwater & Taunton College Principal and CEO.
"Virtual Reality simulation was a step into the unknown for us, but industry recognition in the form of this highly prestigious Semta Skills Award reinforces our belief that we have got it right; only by enabling potential candidates to see and experience, as if at first-hand, what the inside of a nuclear power plant is really like can we produce the professional, effective and highly-skilled technicians that the industry needs."
The Skills Innovation of the Year runners up were: Jaguar Land Rover's Engine Manufacturing Centre - Supplier Exchange in Leading Lean Programme and The Toyota and Lexus Academy.
