Worldskills Kazan 2019

The Worldskills legacy continues to go from strength to strength. Held every 2 years to showcase the best emerging talent from 79 member countries and regions, the competition has been affectionately dubbed ‘the skills olympics’. Approaching 70 years of existence, the world championships of vocational skills have been around longer than both the Brit Awards and the Grammys.

This year’s event takes place in Kazan, Russia from the 22nd – 27th August 2019 and we are definitely excited to see Team UK in action on the world stage! Comprising of 37 members, Team UK will take on 62 other national teams in disciplines that range from aircraft maintenance to cyber security; floristry to mechatronics.

It’s been no easy feat to get to the world championships. To secure a place on Team UK, apprentices and learners have been through an exhaustive selection process, already masterminding the prestigious Worldskills UK National Competitions, culminating in a final round as part of WorldSkills UK LIVE. As the organising partner for WorldSkills UK engineering competitions, Semta are proud to support Team UK, especially in the thirteen disciplines specifically pertaining to the engineering and advanced manufacturing sector.

We would like to take this opportunity to commend and celebrate the achievements of Team UK’s engineering competitors in WorldSkills 2019:

At a recent pre-event conference, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Tatyana Golikova said: “The participants of WorldSkills Conference 2019 will focus on one of our society’s key challenges: finding career design solutions and figuring out what the future of the professions will look like.”

As the leading organisation championing skills in UK advanced engineering and manufacturing, Semta Group are always supportive of the efforts of Team UK and encourage the sector and the nation to rally behind them as they compete at the world championships!

“These young individuals represent the very best of British engineering and I wish them luck as they fly the flag overseas.” Ann Watson, Semta Group CEO
